From 2013–2016, Matt Hossack redefined excellence as a long-stick midfielder for RIT. He was twice named Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, twice honored as USILA Long Stick Middie of the Year, and recognized as both ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and USILA Iroquois National Most Outstanding Player. In Liberty League tournament play, he earned two Most Outstanding Player awards. A three-time All-American (honorable mention 2014, first team 2015 and 2016), Hossack ranks fifth in program history with 369 ground balls and second with 139 caused turnovers, while adding 77 points on 42 goals and 35 assists. He appeared in 83 of 85 contests. A cornerstone of four NCAA playoff teams, including a 2013 national finalist and 2014–15 semifinalist, he was named the 2016 Rich Funke Jr. College Male Athlete of the Year. Following his collegiate career, he captured the 2018 NLL Cup with the Saskatchewan Rush and was named NLL Defensive Player of the Year in 2024–25. A fierce competitor and true leader, Hossack’s impact endures as one of the greatest in RIT lacrosse history.
