Kevin McCarthy was a main reason why the RIT men’s soccer program took off in the 1980’s. During his four-year career from 1981-84, McCarthy’s teams made three NCAA Tournament appearances and went 55-15-5. McCarthy, a two-year captain, had one of the greatest seasons by a Tiger soccer player, scoring 20 goals and adding five assists for 45 points during the 1984 season, as RIT finished the year with a 19-1-1 mark. The 20 goals and 45 points are the third best season totals in school history. He was named the 1984-85 Senior Male Athlete of the Year. McCarthy was a four-time All-ICAC member, earning honorable mention accolades in 1981 and 1982 and first-team honors in 1983 and 1984. He ended his RIT career with 35 goals and 15 assists for 85 points. The 85 points are fifth best in Tiger history.
