Donald K. Carlson made significant contributions both in and out of the water while competing for the RIT swim team. Carlson was the career-scoring leader, set several school and pool records during his swimming career and served as captain all four seasons. In Carlson’s freshman season, the team posted a 16-0 record. He won the team Outstanding Swimmer Award all four seasons, captured the state 500-yard freestyle championship in his freshman campaign, and was named Co-Senior Athlete of the Year in 1974. During his swim career the Tigers compiled a 49-10 won-lost record. After graduating from RIT, Carlson donated fully automatic timing devices to the Institute for use in the former Edith Woodward Memorial Swimming Pool.
