The 1984 Tigers were very impressive throughout the campaign, posting a record-setting 19-1-1 overall mark. RIT’s bid for an NCAA title ended with a 1-0 loss to Brandeis in the semifinals before a home record crowd of 2,300. RIT rolled past Buffalo State, Fredonia and two-time defending champion UNC Greensboro before the Brandeis loss. Prior to that, the Tigers won 18 straight contests. That was the farthest an RIT soccer team had advanced in the NCAAs. Several team marks fell, including most wins (19), most consecutive wins (18), most goals (64) and best won-lost season (19-1-1). Coach Doug May was honored as Regional Coach of the Year for the second time in three years. Individually, Paul Schojan was named All-American and finished the leader with 50 points. Senior Kevin McCarthy tallied 45 points. Rick Botnick played 20 games in goal, posting an impressive 18-1-1 record and allowing 0.70 goals per game. He recorded six solo shutouts and combined with Ron Speziale for another two scoreless efforts. Team awards included Kevin McCarthy, Keith White and Paul Schojan, tri-MVPs, and Dennis Killion, Most Improved.
