When Jeannie Khaw arrived at RIT in 1990, she was well on her way to rewriting volleyball history. One of the most prolific setters in the nation, Khaw had gained valuable experience playing for the National Team in Malaysia, her native country. Khaw went on to earn three All-American titles and three Most Valuable Player plaudits in the Empire Athletic Association. Off the court, she was just as equal, garnering two Academic All-American honors. In 1994 she won the Ellingson Award for her academic excellence as a student-athlete. Maintaining a 3.77 grade point average in accounting, she was named to the Dean's List nine quarters. She received her bachelor of science degree from the College of Business in 1994 and her MBA degree in 1995. As a setter, Khaw put up remarkable numbers that stood as school records for seven years. Her records included best hitting percent in a season (.376 in 1991), most assists in a season (1,640 in 1993), most assists in a career (4,741 from 1990-93), best assist average in a career (9.23 from 1990-93), and most service aces in a career (304 from 1990-93). In 1991 she earned second team All-American honors. In 1992 and 1993 she was named to the first team. During her tenure, RIT competed in four NCAA Division III championships, highlighted with a third place finish in 1993. That year Khaw was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. Four times Khaw was named American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Northeast Region (1990-93). For her four years, the team record was 175-26 (38-9, 1990; 44-3, 1991; 51-6, 1992; 43-8, 1993). The Tigers won four Empire Athletic Association championships and two New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association titles.
