A native of Buffalo, N.Y., John Rush was a member of the RIT golf team from 1975-1979. He became the second RIT-NTID golfer to be named All-American, earning third team honors in 1977. Under Coach Earl Fuller, RIT qualified for three NCAA Division III championships. RIT’s best NCAA finish during John’s career was fifth place in 1978. RIT tied for seventh place in 1976 and placed eighth in 1977. As a freshman, John led the RIT linksmen with a 77.6 dual average and 79.2 overall mark. That same year John carded a 312 at the NCAA Championship. As a sophomore, John again led the team with a 78.5 overall average. In the NCAAs he posted a 306 score, earning him All-American honors. As a junior, John carded a 321 in the NCAAs and finished the season with an overall average of 79.6.
