Hall of Fame
Former RIT hockey standout Matt Garbowsky was inducted into the Atlantic Hockey Hall of Honor in November, 2022. In his final Tiger season (2014-15), he became the first, and still only player in Atlantic Hockey history to win the AHA’s scoring championship and Best Defensive Forward Award the same season. Garbowsky also earned AHA Player of the Year accolades and was a Hobey Baker finalist his senior campaign. In his four seasons, the St. George, Ontario native appeared in 128 games with 48 goals and 66 assists for 114 points. Following initial seasons with 20 and 33 points respectively, he was poised for a breakout season as a junior before injury limited him to just 13 games in 2013-14. Fully healed, the three-year captain returned for his senior season and authored one of the greatest all-around campaigns in Atlantic Hockey history, winning the league regular season scoring title (44 points). In addition to AHA honors, Matt became RIT’s first HACA All-American. He would go on to a professional career that included stints in the AHL, ECHL and Austria. He scored 135 points over two seasons with the ECHL’s Colorado Eagles and was the ECHL All Star Game MVP in 2017. He retired from the professional ranks following the 2019-20 season.
