ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team (19-8, 13-4 Liberty League) honored its senior class and swept defending Liberty League Champion Union College (18-12, 11-9 Liberty League) on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. RIT won game one, 5-0 and just missed a second shutout in game two, winning 11-2.
The Tigers continue to move closer to making their first Liberty League postseason appearance since joining in 2012. RIT leads the crowded Liberty League standings with a .765 winning percentage and if the season were to end today, the Tigers would host the postseason tournament in two weeks. RIT closes out league play with four games at Rensselaer, tied for second in the league standings on Friday and Saturday.
The Tigers recognized seniors
Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ),
CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta),
Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan),
Conor Herlihy (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo),
Ethan Humbert (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott), and
Rich Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) for their accomplishments both on and off the field before the start of action on Sunday.
"It was great to see this senior class have such a great senior day," said RIT head coach
Rob Grow. "This class has accomplished a lot over their time here and we have more games in front of us."
Flanagan had four hits in the doubleheader, driving in five runs and scoring two runs.

In game one, Zabel drove in the first run of the day with a shot to left field, scoring
Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) to give the Tigers an early lead in the second inning.
The game stayed 1-0 until RIT scored four big runs in the top of the seventh to seal the game. Barr walked to start the inning and then advanced to third on
Ben Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)'s single to right. Flanagan blasted a double to score Barr and move Terzini to third. Union looked to intentionally walk Gorman and threw a wild pitch that scored Terzini. Union changed it up and decided to pitch to Gorman. On the very next pitch, Gorman blasted his sixth homer and 31st and 32nd RBIs of the season.
Brandon Cohall (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) was masterful on the mound for RIT, giving up just two hits in the complete-game shutout with zero walks and four strikeouts, needing just 77 pitches for his second win of the season. It was the third shutout of Cohall's collegiate career. Just one Union base runner reached second all game.
In game two, the Tigers racked up 13 hits to score 11 runs in six of the nine innings. Six different Tigers drove in runs led by Flanagan's four RBI effort, giving him 31 on the season and 99 for his RIT career.
The Tigers picked right up where they left off in the first game with Barr getting on to lead off. Barr stole second, his first of three for the game which allowed Gorman to drive him in with a single to left field.
In the top of the fourth the Tigers scored five big runs to advance their 2-0 lead to 7-0. With the bases loaded, Sammon singled to left to score Gorman and advance the runners. Right after, Zabel hit a single to advance the runners and take a 4-0 lead. Flanagan followed it up with a single to right that scored Barr and Zabel.
Barr would score a career-high four runs, with three stolen bases, giving him 13 on the season. Gorman, Barr, Flanagan, Hogan, and
Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had two hits apiece. All 13 of RIT's hits were singles in game two.
On the mound, Herlihy continued his excellent senior season, scattering seven hits, while allowing a pair of runs in eight innings, while striking out four batters for his fourth win of the season. He needed just 98 pitches in the eight innings.
Rich Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) came on and pitched a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to close out the sweep.
"I was happy with our level of play this weekend," said Grow. "I believe if we play to our full potential we will continue to win games. It is exciting to have more meaningful games in front of us."
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Tiger Stadium to take on SUNY Oswego in a non-conference contest that starts at 4 p.m.
