ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (19-9) fell in a nonconference matchup to SUNY Oswego (24-8) on a cold and wet Monday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers made five errors that led to a 16-7 loss on the day.
The Lakers jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the second inning. Oswego would go on to score two more in the top of the fourth before RIT would get on the board in the bottom of the inning.
CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) singled to left field and stole second to get in scoring position with two outs.
Dom Scialabba (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) blasted a double that scored Bolorin to put the Tigers on the board.
RIT went on to score two runs in the fifth off of one hit and a Laker error. In the bottom of the sixth, Bolorin started the inning with a double to right center. Scialabba hit a single to left that scored Bolorin.
Mike Myers (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) would cut the Lakers lead to 10-6 with a long two-run homer, his second of the season.
In the eighth, Oswego would put the game away with six runs.
Brian Hamilton was 3-for-5 and drove in five runs for Oswego, while Jordan Giller also went 3-for-5 and brought in four.
Miles Kelly earned the win on the mound allowing no hits or runs in his two innings on the mound. Five other Lakers saw action on the mound giving up 10 hits. No other Laker pitcher threw more than two innings, with Cody LaFlamme and Pat Brown recording scoreless appearances.
Scialabba and Bolorin had two hits apiece for the Tigers.
Jim Schmidt (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker),
Gage Blasi (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and
Alex Langkamp (Hemlock, NY/Honeoye) had a hit apiece.
Brian Reed (Rochester, NY/Penfield) took the loss for the Tigers, pitching 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.
Brian Sheridan (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg) finished the game for RIT in the ninth facing just three batters with a strike out and only throwing nine pitches.
Tom Dillon (Oswego, NY/Oswego),
David Nitsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield), and
Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) also appeared on the mound.
RIT will be back in action Wednesday at Brockport for a single, nonconference game that will begin at 4 p.m.
