Flanagan notches 100th career RBI, as baseball rallies to win 20th game of season at SUNY Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY - The RIT baseball team (20-9) picked up its 20th win of the season, rallying from a 7-4 deficit to defeat The College at Brockport (19-15), 8-7 on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at Clark V. Whited Complex. Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) became the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career RBIs in the win.

Down 7-4 heading into the top of the sixth inning, RIT scored four times to take a lead they would not relinquish. Brian Battaglia (Sliver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and moved to second on a walk by Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield). After Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ) was hit by pitch to load the bases, Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) singled to right field, scoring Battaglia to make it 7-5 Brockport. Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) would drive in career runs 100 and 101 with a single up the middle, scoring Sammon and Barr to tie the game at 7-7. Two batters later, Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) would drive in the game-winning run and his 35th of the season with ground out to first, plating Ben Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) to make it 8-7.

From there, RIT's bullpen was lights out, throwing four hitless innings. Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) picked up his first collegiate win, facing just 10 batters in three innings, allowing just a single walk and no hits. Brian Sheridan (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg) picked up his first save of the season with a perfect ninth, striking out a pair of batters.

The Tigers opened the game with four runs on six consecutive hits in the first inning to go up 4-0. Kajganich doubled and Flanagan singled, followed by consecutive run scoring singles by CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Gorman, Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton), and Battaglia.

Brockport would chip away, scoring three times in the second, all with two outs, and four in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead.

RIT out-hit Brockport, 14-7. Flanagan led the way by going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. He now has 101 RBIs, including 97 over the last three years. Flanagan is just two RBIs away from third all-time at the university.

Bolorin was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, a run scored, and RBI. He now has a team-best 17 stolen bases on the season and 33 for his career. Gorman was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, giving him 35 this season, tied for sixth best in one season at the university and six shy of the single season mark. Kagjanich, Battaglia, and Sammon had two hits each.

Chris Davis and led Brockport with a pair of hits, while Eli Carrera scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Five different Golden Eagles pitchers combined to strike out 13 Tigers, including Adam Pratt, who had five strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

RIT reached the 20-win plateau for the eighth time in program history and first since 2008. They are four wins shy of the school mark of 24, set in 2006 and 2007.

Brockport leads the all-time series between the two schools, 66-51. It was the first meeting between these long time rivals this season.

RIT goes on the road this weekend for a crucial four-game series at Liberty League foe Rensselaer. Friday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., while Saturday's duo starts at 12 p.m. It is a battle of the top two teams in league play, with home field advantage potentially on the line. RIT is first in Liberty League play with a 13-4 record, while Rensselaer is right behind with a 15-5 mark.
