ROCHESTER, NY -- On Senior Day the RIT (11-14, 8-8 E8) men's basketball team closed out the 2010-11 season in style defeating Alfred University (8-17, 3-13 E8) 67-61 in Empire 8 action on Saturday. Senior
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) had five steals setting the career record for steals at RIT with 179 breaking the old record of 175.
Junior swing man
Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) led RIT with 26 points and seven rebounds. He helped RIT cut an Alfred second-half lead with a bucket in the second half that cut it down to five. He added big three pointer late in the second half to extend the Tigers lead out to nine.
Korinchak finished with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals. He finishes his career at RIT the all time leader in steals and fifth all-time in assists with 328.
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) added 10 points and five assists, and
RJ Kalb (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) scored eight points and had a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Tigers shot 45.9% from the floor on 28-of-61 shooting. The Tigers were just 2-of-20 from beihnd the arc but were 9-of-13 from the foul line. RIT was out-rebounded by Alfred 37-33, but committed just eight turnovers. The Tigers scored 23 points off of 19 Alfred turnovers.
Josh Parker was one of three Saxons scoring in double figures with 14 points. Patrick Hollenbeck added 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Gary Kwiecien scored 10 points and had five assists.
