ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Men's Basketball team is set to embark on a seven‑day international trip to Costa Rica (Aug. 4–10), marking an important opportunity for competitive growth, cultural immersion, and team bonding ahead of the upcoming season.
 
"Programs aren't built by one season or one game—they're built through shared experiences, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to something bigger than basketball," said second‑year head coach Dominic Parker. "One of the great benefits of an international tour is the opportunity to begin our season earlier than usual, giving our team valuable time to practice, compete, and continue developing our identity together. This trip will allow us to accelerate that process while experiencing a new culture and creating memories that will last a lifetime."
 
Alongside scheduled practices, RIT will compete in two international exhibition games against the Costa Rican Pre‑Selection National Team, set for Wednesday and Sunday. The matchups will provide valuable experience against high‑level international competition.
 
Off the court, the Tigers will explore San José and the Pacific Coast, beginning with a guided tour of key cultural sites, including the Central Market, National Church, National Theater, and the Artisan's Market. The week's itinerary also includes hiking La Paz Waterfall Gardens and touring the animal sanctuary, a visit to the town of Jacó for surf instruction along the Pacific Coast, a rainforest zip‑lining excursion, and a stop at the Tarcoles River "Crocodile Bridge," one of Costa Rica's signature wildlife viewing locations.
 
The Tigers' Costa Rica trip reflects RIT's commitment to providing student‑athletes with global learning opportunities that extend beyond basketball, blending athletic development with cultural exploration.
 
"We believe the strongest teams are forged through experiences like these," Parker said. "This journey is another important step in building something special at RIT, and our goal is to return not only as a better basketball team, but as better leaders, better teammates, and better people."
