UTICA, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team (10-14, 7-8 Empire 8) dropped a heartbreaker to Utica College, (13-10, 7-8 Empire 8) 76-75 on a buzzer beater by James Patterson in Empire 8 action on Friday night.

RIT's Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) gave the Tigers a two point lead with six seconds remaining in regulation with a pair of free throws after being fouled by Jeff Ward.

After a timeout by the Pioneers with two seconds remaining, Patterson took the inbounds and launched a three from the top of the three-point arc at the buzzer that went in to give Utica the win.

RIT led by four points with 52 seconds remaining in regulation, but a pair of free throws by Patterson and a layup by Marion Lewis tied the score setting up the wild finish.

Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) paced RIT with 25 and 24 points respectively. Sophomore RJ Kalb (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) added 10 points and had a team-high seven rebounds for the Tigers who fall to 10-14 overall and 7-8 in the Empire 8.

RIT shot 48.4% from the floor on 30-of-62 shooting and were 7-of-17 from three point land. The Tigers were out-rebounded 37-22 by the Pioneers, but forced Utica into 11 turnovers.

The Tigers close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Alfred University at 4 p.m. on Senior Day at Clark Gym.
