PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team dropped their second conference game in three attempts on Saturday, losing to cross-town rival St. John Fisher College 60-44. The Tigers fell behind early in the first half and never recovered falling to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the Empire 8.
RIT fell behind in the first half thanks to poor shooting. The Tigers shot just 18.5% from the floor, making 5-of-27 field goals and scoring a mere 18 points.
The Tigers kept it close in the first eight minutes of the first half. Senior guard
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville)'s jumper with 12:19 to play in the opening half, tied the score at 13-13.
St. John Fisher closed out the half with a 14-5 run and led 27-18 at the half.
The closest RIT got to the Cardinals in the second half was seven points. That came at the 18:04 mark on jumper by
Darryl Anderson (San Diego, CA/Southwest).
From that point on, St. John Fisher gradually opened their lead going onto the 60-44 win.
Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) led RIT with 13 points.
Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) added 10 points for the Tigers, who shot just 24.1% from the floor.
RIT was outrebounded by the Cardinals 47-24. The Tigers committed just nine turnovers, but scored just 10 points off of 22 St. John Fisher turnovers.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, January 28 with a road conference game at Alfred University. Tip off is at 8 pm.
