RIT men's hoops beats D'Youville to wrap up 2010 calendar year

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team wrapped up the 2010 calendar year with an impressive 78-59 win over D'Youville College on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Tigers to 4-5 overall, while D'Youville falls to 2-7 on the season.

RIT trailed by four points early in the first half, but stormed back to lead by as many as nine points in the half. The Tigers outscored the Spartans 28-17 over the final 12:24 of the half and led 40-33 at the break.

The Tigers shot 48.5% from the floor in the first half and were 4-of-9 from behind the arc. RIT scored 16 points in the paint and scored eight points off of six D'Youville turnovers.

Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) led RIT with 11 points and eight rebounds in the first half. Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) added seven points and Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) dished out seven first-half assists.

The Tigers built their lead to 12 points ealry in the second half on a layup by Harder off an assist from Lowe to give the Tigers a 46-34 lead.

Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees)'s jumper with 10:34 remaining in the half gave RIT their largest lead of the game at 16 points and Darryl Anderson (San Diego, CA/Southwest)'s bucket with 9:11 to play pushed the Tigers lead to 20 points.

RIT led by as many as 26 points in the second half, shooting 42.9% from the floor.

Harder led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) and Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) each had 11 points. Lowe finsihed with six points and dished out a season-high 10 assists.

Shane Canahai and Farley Kenneth led D'Youville with 12 points apiece. Th Spartans shot 39.3% from the floor and were out-rebounded by the Tigers 54-32.

RIT returns to action on January 4 when the Tigers face cross-town rival the University of Rochester. Tip-off is at 8 pm at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Rochester.
