STORRS, CT – The Tigers looked to rebound after a 2-1 loss on Friday at the hands of the Huskies. RIT did just that, scoring two third period goals, coming from behind to beat the Huskies 5-4 on Saturday.
The Tigers scored three power play goals, including two in the third period to improve to 5-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey Association play.
Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) (Linwood, ON) tallied the game-winner with 13:26 left in the third period, and finished with a goal and an assist.
Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/Merritt Centennials) (Burnaby, BC) and
Chris Haltigin (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, ON) each had a pair of assists.
”If this weekend shows us anything its that effort plays a big part in wining and losing,” said RIT Head Coach
Wayne Wilson. “Last night we didn't put forth a great deal of effort and came up short. Tonight, we played with a little more heart and came out on top.”
Connecticut took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Chris Ochoa. Marcello Ranalla made it 2-0 Huskies when he jammed home a loose puck in front of
Jared DeMichiel (Avon, Conn./Chicago Steel) (Avon, CT).
The Tigers got one goal back with
Mike Janda's (Glen Ellyn, IL) second goal of the season. Janda intercepted a breakout pass by UCONN and fired a wrist shot that deflected off a UCONN skate and into the net.

Matt Crowell (Kelowna, British Columbia/Williams Lake Timberwolves)# (Kelowna, BC). He took a feed from Haltigin along the dasher boards and worked his around the Huskies defense with some nifty moves and wristed a shot past Beau Erickson's glove hand.
The Huskies' Sean Erickson tallied a power play goal with 17 seconds remaining in the period to give UCONN a 3-2 lead at the first intermission. He scored off a rebound on a shot from Brian Reagan. DeMichiel made the initial save but the rebound came right to Erickson who tipped the puck into the open net.
RIT tied the score at 3-3 on a short-handed goal from
Brent Alexin (West Seneca, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) (West Seneca, NY).
Stevan Matic (Burnaby, British Columbia/Langley Hornets) (Burnaby, BC) fed Alexin and he skated around a Huskie defender and fired a back-handed shot that beat Erickson to the glove side.
UCONN took the lead back on a power play goal from Ochoa. He skated into RIT's zone and fired a shot. DeMichiel made the save but the rebound came back to Ochoa who placed a shot over DeMichiel's shoulder for a 4-3 lead.

Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/Aurora Tigers)# (King City, ON) tipped home a shot from Mazur just 35 seconds into the third period. Mazur took a pass from
Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Blades) (Oakville, ON) and ripped a slap shot from the right point. Favot, who was parked in front, tipped home the shot tying the score at 4-4.
The Tigers took their first lead of the weekend on a power play goal from Brenner at 6:34 of the third.
Jesse Newman (Kelowna, British Columbia/Trail Smokeeaters) (Kelowna, BC) got Brenner the puck and he took a hard wrister from the left face-off dot the Erickson never saw, giving RIT a 5-4 lead.
The Huskies had a power play with 20 seconds remaining in regulation and with the goalie pulled, had the 6-on-4 advantage.
Stevan Matic (Burnaby, British Columbia/Langley Hornets) won the face-off but the Tigers couldn't control the puck. UCONN had two shots blocked and Matic was able to clear the puck down the ice and out of danger.
Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators) (Chicoutimi, PQ) who came in in relief of DeMichiel picked up the win, making three saves in the third period.
RIT will face UMASS-Lowell next Saturday in Lowell, Massachusetts.
