Men's basketball to host Vassar in Liberty League Tournament quarterfinal Tuesday

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's basketball will compete in its first postseason contest since the 2014-15 season on Tuesday, Feb. 20 when the Tigers host Vassar College at 7 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League Tournament. The winner will advance to the semifinals to be played on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Hobart College.

RIT, the third seed, enters Tuesday 13-12 overall, having finished 11-7 in Liberty League play. RIT is 4-1 over its last five games, outscoring opponents by an average of 73.8-68.2 during that stretch. RIT beat Bard 99-81 its last time out on Saturday. Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) led four Tigers in double figures with 26 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Troy Pierre-Louis (Providence, RI/Berkshire School) added 21 points and seven assists. Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Pierre-Louis is tied for tenth in the league in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game. He is second in free throw percentage (87.1 percent) and is fourth in assists (3.9). Lewis is tenth in free throw percentage (77.2 percent).

Defensively, RIT is fourth in the league, allowing 71.7 points per game. The Tigers are second in the league, averaging 41.4 rebounds per game. Aguilera leads the league and is tied for second in all of Division III averaging 3.2 blocks per game. He is second in Division III with 80 blocks, a RIT single-season record.

Sixth-seeded Vassar enters Tuesday 9-16 overall, having finished 8-10 in league play. Vassar is 3-2 in its last five games and earned the sixth seed with a 66-54 win at Ithaca last Saturday. Jesse Browne led the Brewers with 17 points, while Paul Grinde tallied 12 points and 18 rebounds.

Vassar enters this evening second in the league, shooting 45.6 percent from the floor. Browne leads the team and is eighth in scoring (15.6 PPG). He has hit 38.7 percent of his shots from beyond the arc and is tied for ninth, averaging 3.1 assists per game. Grinde leads the league, shooting 56.8 percent from the field and is also fifth in rebounding, averaging 7.9 caroms per game.

RIT is 10-5 all time versus Vassar, including two wins earlier in the season. The Tigers beat the Brewers 61-57 at Clark Gym on Jan. 13 and earned a 63-54 win at Vassar on Feb. 9. Aguilera led RIT with 13 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in the most recent win. Grinde led Vassar with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

RIT SAAC will host a Tiger Den event Tuesday evening. There will be a raffle at 6:45 for prize packets.
