ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's cross country claimed victory, defeating an impressive field of 17 teams at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational, held at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday morning. Junior Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden/Cybergymnasiet) won his third consecutive race.

RIT, who was celebrating Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend and its Tiger Den Event, had three of the top six finishers in the field of 209 runners. Kingstedt, the reigning USTFCCCA Division III Runner of the Week, led throughout, recording a time of 25:38.6 over the 8,000-meter course to defeat second place Sam Merriman of Case Western Reserve by nearly 22 seconds.

Sophomore Reid Kovacs (Palo Alto, CA/Henry M. Gunn) continued his strong season, finishing fifth overall in a time of 26:19.5. Senior James Bailey (Danvers, MA/Danvers) was right behind Kovacs in sixth, finishing the race in 26:25.4.

Senior John Mooney (Norwich, NY/Norwich) and junior Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) rounded out RIT's five scorers, finishing 19th and 22nd overall, respectively. Mooney cross the finish line in 26:55.8, while Feigel recorded a time of 27:02.5. Junior Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport) (32nd – 27:17.3) and freshman Ben Beaudry (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) (55th – 27:53.8) also recorded top-60 finishes.

"Today was the first time we were able to put our entire team together this season," said RIT head coach David Warth. "We really wanted to run for the win, especially on our Tiger Den event. The guys put a great effort into winning the race."

The Tigers recorded a team score of 53 points to win the event, knocking off second place SUNY Geneseo, who entered the meet ranked second in the USTFCCCA Division III national poll. Geneseo finished with 72 points, while Case Western, ranked 35th nationally, finished third with 77 points.

RIT is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, as they look for victory at the 2017 Liberty League Championship, which will be held at Vassar College. Start time is 12 p.m.
