Meet Results
CLINTON, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team (5-3) jumped back into the pool to start the 2016 calendar year, defeating Vassar (2-6) by a score of 201-94 while falling to Hamilton (4-0), 164-133 in a three-team meet at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.
RIT's 200-yard medley relay team of
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
Thomas Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline), and
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) placed second in a strong time of 1:40.71.
Rothrock picked up a win in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.64. Brown and Rothrock led the field in the 50-free, finishing just two one-hundredths of a second apart. Brown finished in 22.71 and Rothrock, 22.73. Brown and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) finished first and third in the 100-yard free with times of 49.39 and 50.78 respectively.
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.98), while Paine was also third (2:04.32). Paine also placed third in the 200-free (1:49.35).
In diving,
Benjamin Hamilton (Addison, NY/Addison) won the 3-meter event with a score of 239.90 and was third in the 1-meter with a score of 251.35. Teammate
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) won the 1-meter with a score of 255.55, while placing third in the 3-meter in 206.15.
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:29.73), while
John Stelmack (Toccoa, GA/Stephens County) was third in the 200-breaststroke (2:19.74),
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) placed third in the 500-free (5:07.43), and
Wil Seifried (Springfield, PA/Springfield) earned third in the 100-fly (56.85).
RIT finished with a win in the 400-freestyle relay, as Paine, O'Gorman,
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North), and Brown recorded a time of 3:21.94.
The Tigers are back home for the next two weekends. On Saturday, Jan. 23, RIT hosts the University of Rochester and on Jan. 30, compete against Nazareth. Both meets start at 1 p.m.
