ROCHESTER, NY - For the second time in just over 48 hours, the RIT men's tennis team (5-6) rolled to a 9-0 shutout victory, this time over visiting Nazareth College (2-9) at the Gordon Field House on Monday afternoon.
The Tigers did not lose a set in singles play and rolled to their three doubles wins.
The first doubles team of
Amos Baptiste (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) and
Jared Ingoglia (Essex Fells, NJ/West Essex Regional) upended Tyler Williams and Christian Bryant, 8-4, while the second doubles duo of
Ken Chou (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott ) and
Frank McGinn III (Wappingers Falls, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) enjoyed an 8-5 victory. At third doubles,
Jason Alexander (Austin, TX/Bowie) and
Jared Raphael (Batavia, NY/Batavia) rolled to an 8-1 victory over James Deane and Jake Warren.
Ingoglia had an emphatic 6-1, 6-0 win over Bryant at second singles, while Alexander defeated Deane, 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles.
Marc Lachance (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Ian Danserau had straight set wins at third and sixth singles, while Raphael had a 6-4, 6-4 win at fourth singles and Baptiste won the closest match of the afternoon at first singles over Williams, 7-5, 6-2.
"We were the agressive players today, putting the pressure on our opponents," said RIT head coach
Krystina Barnum. "We had the mindset that we wanted to win and it showed."
RIT is back in action this weekend, playing its final two home matches of the season, against Union at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Oneonta State on Sunday at noon.
