Baseball has bats silenced in loss to St. Olaf

AUBURNDALE, FL - The RIT baseball team (5-2) fell to St. Olaf College (5-5) by a score of 5-1 at Lake Myrtle Park Field on Monday afternoon. The Tigers and Oles were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but heavy rain in the area delayed play until 5 p.m.

The Tigers entered the game having scored 61 runs in their first six games. The Oles duo of Nate Gelle and Ryan Tapani shut down the potent RIT offense, allowing just four hits in nine innings. Gelle allowed four hits and a run over the first five innings for the win, while Tapani was lights out over the final four innings, not allowing a baserunner, while striking out six batters.

RIT scored its only run in the fifth inning, as CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) doubled and scored on a single by Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia). Bolorin led the way with two hits, while Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) had the other RIT hit.

On the mound, Ethan Humbert (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) took the loss, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out three in six innings. Conor Herlihy (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) pitched the last two innings in relief.

St. Olaf led 2-1 until breaking the game open with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Tapani was 2-for-4 with a run scored and run batted in. Tim Maus was 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and two runs scored.

RIT is right back in action on Tuesday with a single contest against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh that gets underway at 11:30 a.m.
