Baseball loses on walk-off home run to Wisconsin-Oshkosh

WINTER HAVEN, FL - The RIT baseball team (5-3) rallied from four runs down and took a late lead before WIsconsin-Oshkosh (4-4) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, taking down the Tigers, 8-7 at Chain of Lakes Park on Tuesday afternoon.

With one out in the ninth inning, Tyler Kozlowski hit a walk off home run to left field to give Wisconsin-Oshkosh the win. The Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings before RIT roared back with four runs in the fifth to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Brian Battaglia (Sliver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) singled in Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) and Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) to make it 4-2. Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) doubled to right field, scoring Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) to make it 4-3. Battaglia would score on a balk to tie the game at 4-4.

After the Titans took the lead back in the sixth, Gorman hit a two-run homer to right field, scoring Battaglia to give RIT a 6-5 lead. Wisconsin-Oshkosh would score twice in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead before Jim Schmidt (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta).

Gorman was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. He has 18 hits in 30 at-bats (.600) with 13 RBIs in eight games this season. Battaglia was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Flanagan tied a career-high with four walks, while Bolorin walked three times.

On the mound, Brian Reed (Rochester, NY/Penfield) got the start, giving up a pair of earned runs in three innings. David Nitsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) pitched the final 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.

Five different pitchers appeared in the game for the Titans. John Eagan was 3-for-5 with two run scored, while Robbie Kleman drove in three runs.

RIT wraps up play in Florida on Wednesday with a single contest against Westminster College that gets underway at 2 p.m.
