WINTER HAVEN, FL - The RIT baseball team (6-3) wrapped up its Florida trip by jumping out to a big lead and hanging on to defeat Westminster College (7-3), 7-6 at Chain of Lakes Park Stadium on Wendesday afternoon.
On the mound, freshman
Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) picked up his first collegiate win, coming on in relief and allowing three hits and one run over three innings.
Rich Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) started for the Tigers and pitched well, allowing one hit and an unearned run while striking out three batters in three innings.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Brian Sheridan (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg) pitched the eighth inning, allowing two runs, while
Tom Dillon (Oswego, NY/Oswego) got his first save, getting RIT out of a jam in the ninth.
RIT exploded for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead, with the big blow a bases clearing double by
Brian Battaglia (Sliver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake). He woudl double twice on the day.
Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) would triple in the seventh inning driving in
Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name), who singled to make it 6-2.
CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) singled to drive in Flanagan, making it a 7-2 lead.
Flanagan would go 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Bolorin had two hits and a stolen base.
Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ),
Zach Zabel (Clarence, NY/Clarence), and Kajganich would reach base a pair of times each
RIT is right back in action on Saturday and Sunday, opening up Liberty League play against St. Lawrence University at Basket Road Park in Webster. Both doubleheaders will start at 12 p.m.
