Box Score 2 HOUGHTON, NY - The RIT baseball team (3-0) rolled to an 8-2 victory over Houghton College on Saturday afternoon and a few hours later, the Tigers defeated first-year program Elmira College 18-2.
In the opener against Houghton, RIT jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the third inning, scoring three times in the first and once in the second and third innings. After Houghton scored a single run in the bottom of the third inning, RIT added to its lead with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull away.
Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) gave RIT a 1-0 lead in the first with a sacrifice fly, scoring
Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ).
Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) and
Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) executed the double steal to perfection to make it 2-0, while
CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) doubled in Flanagan for a 3-0 lead.
Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) led RIT offensively by going 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored. Hogan was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Flangan scored three times, walked twice, and stole a pair of bases.
Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) walked three times.
On the mound,
Conor Herlihy (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) picked up his first win of the season, allowing two hits and an unearned run over five innings with three strikeouts.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched two innings of scoreless relief, while
Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) made his collegiate debut, allowing a run on two hits over the final two innings.
Against Elmira, RIT jumped out to an 18-0 lead after six innings, scoring eight times in the sixth frame.
Brandon Cohall (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) picked up the win on the mound, while
Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ) had four RBIs. The Tigers pounded out 17 hits.
The Tigers are right back in action Monday, with a contest vs. St. John Fisher at Houghton College.
