Men's basketball set to face Skidmore in Liberty League Tournament Semifinals

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team qualified for its first Liberty League Tournament since joining the conference in 2011-12. RIT, the No. 4 seed, will face No. 1 seed Skidmore College in the semifinals on Wednesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The winner advances to the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 28, and will face the winner between No. 2 Hobart and No. 3 Clarkson at the highest remaining seed.

RIT (13-12) comes into Wednesday fourth in the Liberty League, averaging 68.2 points per game. The Tigers are shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and have made 184 made 3-pointers on the season.  RIT is seventh in the league, holding its opponents 69.4 points per game.
 
Freshman AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) leads the team and is sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per game. He is second in the conference, averaging 2.6 made 3-point field goals per game, fifth, averaging 3.3 assists per game, and leads the conference, averaging 2.1 steals per game. Joe Stortini (Red Hook, NY/Loomis Chaffee) is second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game, and JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland) is third, averaging 10.8 points per contest. Kamron Davis (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.8 per contest, while Miguel Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) leads the team in shooting percentage (.591).

Skidmore (17-7) comes into Wednesday's semifinals second in the league in scoring, averaging 70.4 points per game and is third defensively, allowing 62.8 points per game.

Aldin Medunjanin leads the Thoroughbreds in scoring and is seventh in the conference, averaging 14.6 points per game, and is second in the league in assists, averaging 4.1 per game. Erik Sanders and Connor Merrill are tied for second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.1 per contest. Merrill leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.5 boards per game.

Skidmore is 6-5 all-time versus RIT, including a sweep of the two regular season games this year. In game one, Horde and Stortini each scored 17 points; while Bedulskij tallied 19 points for Skidmore in a 78-66 Thoroughbreds win on Jan. 2. In game two on Feb. 7, Merrill led Skidmore with 19 points, while Horde scored 13 for RIT in a 73-64 win for Skidmore at Clark Gym.
