CANTON, NY – Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) and John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) each won multiple events as the RIT men's swimming and diving team (4-1) picked up its fourth straight win, a 142-89 triumph over St. Lawrence (0-3) on Saturday afternoon. Brown and O'Gorman, teammates on the 200-yard relay 'A' team, along with Matt Butler and
Thomas Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline), won the event in 1:35.40. Brown later picked up an individual victory, winning in the 50-yard freestyle, edging teammates Steve Paine and
Tomer Artzi (Framingham, MA/Framingham), with a time of 22.56. O'Gorman took home first in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:07.31.
In other individual events,
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings),
Andrew Rearson (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin), and
Wil Seifried (Springfield, PA/Springfield) finished 1-2-3 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, as Schlehr won in convincing fashion with a time of 10:46.72.
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) won in one of the closest races on the day, barely eking a victory over teammate
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) in the 200-yard freestyle by .34 seconds, winning in 1:52.41. Hayes rallied after the close 2nd place finish, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 51.58.
Other winners include Paine, who won in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.84), and
Corey Birsner (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst), who dominated in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.43). On the diving board, Ben Hamilton was the highest finisher for the Tigers in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, finishing third in both events, with 214.85 and 199.80 points, respectively.
RIT has now won four straight dual meets after falling to RPI in the season opener, beating Oswego State, Alfred University, and Fredonia State before its victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday.
The Tigers will look for their fifth straight victory, returning home for a dual match with Division II LeMoyne College at Judson Pool on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.
