Click here for meet resultsOSWEGO, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team (1-1) picked up its first dual meet win of the season, defeating SUNY Oswego (0-1) by a score of 142-94 on Wednesday evening. The Tigers won seven individual events and one relay.
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) took the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:52.06, narrowly edging teammate
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth). Berus also won the 500-free over teammate
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) in 5:06.92. O'Gorman also won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.33 seconds, while Wang won the 1,000-yard freestyle by 23 seconds over teammate
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings) in 10:30.48.
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.19 seconds and the 100-free by just under a second in 49.08 seconds.
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) annexed the 200-yard individual medley by just over three seconds in a time of 2:05.82.
RIT opened the evening by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Rothrock,
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East), Brown, and
Daniel Yuen-Schat (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) won by nearly three seconds in 1:41.27, as O'Gorman,
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), Tom Regan, and
Dennis Zhou (Antwerp, NY/Indian River) placed second. The Tigers had the winning time in the 200-yard freestyle relay, but raced it as an exhibition.
Diver
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) was second in the 1-meter event, while Ben Hamilton was runner-up in the 3-meter.
The Tigers return to action with a dual meet at Alfred University on Saturday that gets underway at 1 p.m.
