Softball Drops Two to St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, NY --
The RIT softball team (7-7) dropped a pair of non-conference games to cross-town rival St. John Fisher (14-4) on Saturday afternoon at RIT Field.  The Cardinals took game one, 2-1, and game two, 10-0.

The Tigers got on the board first in game one, with Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) cranking a home run to left field in the bottom of the second.

Fisher responded in the fourth inning.  Leanne Merchant was hit by pitch to start off the inning, and was pinch-run for by Michelle Townsend.  After a sacrifice bunt advanced Townsend to second, Sarah Fordyce crushed a home run, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.

Both pitchers were stellar all game, with Fisher's Danielle Leone allowing just five hits in the win.  Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) gave up only six hits in seven innings of work.

Game two got off to a slow start, but the Cardinals scored three runs in the third and exploded for seven in the fourth, on their way to a 10-0 win.

The Tigers managed just three hits, including two in the first inning.  Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) hit a single to start off the inning, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View )Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ) singled, but McCormick was called out for interference on her way to third.  Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) popped up to the third baseman in foul territory to end the inning.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Pittsford to take on Nazareth in a double-header, starting at 1 p.m.
