ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT softball team (7-5) played its first home games of the 2012 season on Wednesday, winning both contests over Medaille (2-10) in its last at-bats by scores of 5-2 and 9-8. March 21 is the earliest that RIT has ever played a home game in Rochester, with the Tigers playing on a sunny, 80-degree day. Kelsey McManus (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon ) broke a RIT single-game record with three doubles in game two.

Freshman Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) doubled four times on the afternoon, with two in each game.

In game one, RIT rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit in the 5-2 win. McManus led off the inning by crushing a solo home run to left field. After a double, walk, and single loaded the bases with nobody out, Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) scored on a passed ball to give RIT the lead for good. Wolcott followed with a double down the right field line, scoring Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) and Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) to make it 5-2.

Sarah Collmus (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) picked up her third win of the season, scattering seven hits, allowing two runs, while striking out five in the complete-game effort.

Wolcott doubled twice for the Tigers. Brittney LaVoie (Plattsburgh, NY/Ticonderoga) also drove in a run.

For Medaille, Katie Gibbins crushed a long solo home run down the left field line in the first inning. Sarah Barrancotta also drove in a run. Nicole Gulisano held RIT to just a run and four hits over the first five innings before the sixth inning comeback.

In game two, RIT scored three times in the bottom of the first, while Medaille rallied with six in the top of the second inning. The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs, with Medaille coming right back with two in the top of the fifth, setting the stage for the comeback.

LaVoie led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single up the middle, then advanced to third after a Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) bunt was thrown into right field. McManus lofted a fly ball to right field, scoring LaVoie with the tying run. The throw hit McManus' bat lying by home plate and caromed towards the RIT dugout, allowing McCormick to score the winning run.

The Tigers slammed 15 hits in game two, including seven doubles, one shy of a single-game record. In addition to McManus' three doubles, she scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Brittany Griffin (Sterling, VA/Park View ) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Tabisz, Wolcott, LaVoie, and Arielle Link (Weston, CT/Weston) had two hits apiece. Tiffany Gundler (North Adams, MA/Drury ) picked up her first win on the mound.

Gibbins was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI's for Medaille. Barrancotta added a pair of hits.

The Tigers are back in action on Thursday, March 29, as they travel to play Keuka in a doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m.
