Men's basketball loses at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team was defeated by Vassar 72-69 in Liberty League action from Poughkeepsie, New York on Friday evening.

RIT trailed by just two points at halftime and held a slim three point lead in the second half, but the Brewers took the lead for good with 11:29 remaining in the second half.

A layup by Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) with five seconds to play cut Vassar's lead to one at 70-69. Johnny Mrlik's pair of free throws with four seconds to play made it a three point lead.

Heisig turned the ball on RIT's next possession to seal the win for Vassar.

Heisig finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) led RIT with 19 points and had 10 rebounds. Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) finished with 11 points, five rebounds and had four assists.

The Tigers shot 54.9 percent from the floor on 28-of-51 shooting. RIT was 4-of-11 from behind the arc and were 9-of-15 from the free throw line. RIT held a 33-27 rebounding edge, outscoring the Brewers 44-22 in the paint.

RIT will wrap up the season on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Bard College at 4 pm.
