ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team was defeated by Union College (15-7, 8-6 Liberty League) 82-73 in Liberty League action from Clark Gym from Tuesday night. The loss drops the Tigers to 8-15 on the season and 4-10 in the Liberty League.
RIT trailed by 10 at the half, but fought back in the second half, tying the score at 62 apiece on a three pointer by
Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex). That capped off a 21-12 run by the Tigers to get back in the game.
Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) had eight points for RIT in the run, while Nicasio added a pair of three pointers including the game tying buccket. Nicasio finished with 16 points and was 4-of-9 from three point land.
The Dutchmen responded with an 11-0 run, taking a 73-62 lead on a three pointer Terell Winney 2:54 to play to seal the game for Union and keep their playoff hopes alive. Winney finished with 17 points, while Joe Mason scored a game-high 20 points.
Heisig and Brendna Harder led RIT with 18 points apiece. Harder grabbed eight rebounds, while Heisig had five caroms.
RIT hits the road for the final weekend of the regular season. The TIgers face Vassar College at 8 pm on Friday, Feb. 17 in Poughkeepsie, NY. RIT closes out the season on Saturday at 4 pm at Bard College.
