Men's Basketball Falls at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.
-- The RIT men's basketball team (4-7, 0-2 Liberty League) was defeated by Skidmore College (8-2, 2-0 Liberty League) 67-49 on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds took a quick 23-9 lead, behind eight points from Brian Lowry.  The Tigers fought back, closing the first half on a 9-3 run to cut the lead to 11.

RIT started the second half with a quick three by Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers) and a layup by Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South), cutting the lead to six.  With the lead back at 11, the Tigers went on a 10-0 run in just under three minutes, sparked by six from Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta).  RIT tied the ballgame up at 45-45 with just over eight minutes to play off a three from Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex).  Skidmore put on the pressure from there and closed the game on a 22-4 run.

Harder led the Tigers with 12 points.  Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) chipped in with nine points and six rebounds while Nicasio added seven points and two assists.

RIT shot 37 percent (16-43) from the field while Skidmore shot 43 percent (22-51).  The Tigers were 13-for-19 from the free throw line (68 %) and the Throgoughbreds were 11-for-14 (79 %).
