TUCSON, AZ - The RIT softball team opened the 2011 season by splitting two games on Sunday afternoon, RIT opened with a 11-2 win over Sul Ross University, then fell 8-0 in five innings to William Penn.
RIT pounded 13 hits and scored five first inning runs to defeat Sul Ross.
Michelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and three runs batted in.
Tori Nadow (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and a run batted in.
Emily Courtney (Berlin, CT/Kingswood-Oxford) was 2-fof-4.
Arielle Link (Weston, CT/Weston) was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Megan O'Connell walked and scored three times, and stole two bases.
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits and two runs, striking out five in five innings of work.
Tiffany Gundler (North Adams, MA/Drury ) made her collegiate debut, pitching two scoreless innings.
Courtney and Emmi each had two hits in the loss to William Penn. Tabisz also had a hit for RIT.
RIT returns to action on Monday with games against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wartburg.
