HOBOKEN, NJ -- The RIT men's basketball team dropped a key Empire 8 contest on Saturday losing to Stevens (17-5, 10-3 E8) 76-64. The loss drops the Tigers to 11-13 overall and 7-6 in the Empire 8.
The Tigers shot 41.5% from the floor and were just 7-of-18 from behind the three point line.
Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) and
Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) led RIT with 13 points apiece, and
RJ Kalb (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) added 12 points.
RIT kept the game close throughout most of the first half.
Casey Bobelis (Brandenton, FL/Braden River)' bucket with 4:17 remaining in the half cut a Stevens lead from five points down to three.
An 8-4 run by the Ducks over the final 4:17 gave Stevens a 38-30 lead at the half. Terry led RIT with 10 first-half points. Kalb added eight points and had three rebounds.
RIT shot just 38.2% from the floor in the second half including just 5-of-14 from behind the arc as Stevens slowly extended their lead. The Ducks were hot from the floor in the second half, shooting 60% from the floor on 12-of-20 shooting.
The loss drops RIT two games back of St. John Fisher in the loss column for the fourth and final spot in the Empire 8 Tournament.
The Tigers returns to action on Tuesday, February 15 with a critical game versus Ithaca College. Tip-off at Ben Light Gymnasium is at 8 pm.
