Men's Basketball Loses to Roberts Wesleyan at Wendy's College Classic

CHILI, N.Y. –
The RIT men's basketball team was defeated by Roberts Wesleyan 72-63 in the third round of the 2011 Wendy's College Classic.  The Tigers finished the Classic in eighth.
 
Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) led the way for the Tigers with 18 points, earning All-Tournament team honors. Kurt Fenderbosch (Myrtle Beach, SC/Socastee) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.  Desmond Scott (Murphy, TX/Plano East) was strong off the bench, with six points, five boards and four assists.  William Kemp-Harris led Roberts Wesleyan with 21 points.
 
The Raiders got out to a hot start, shooting 4-for-4 from the field in the first 1:45, taking an 8-0 lead.  The Tigers clawed their way back, behind seven straight points from Heisig, taking a three-point lead at the 8:56 mark.  RIT took a six point lead into the locker room, ending the first half with back-to-back buckets by Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West) and Fenderbosch.
 
The second half was a back-and-forth battle until the final minutes, with Roberts closing the game on a 20-8 run.
 
RIT shot 19-for-54 from the field (35.2%) and 21-for-29 from the free throw line (72.4%).  Roberts shot 27-for-54 from the field (50.0%) and 16-for-27 from the line (59.3%).  The Tigers out-rebounded the Raiders 38-33.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday when they host York College in the first round of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament.  Tipoff at 8 p.m.
