PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The RIT men's basketball team (2-3) fell to SUNY Geneseo (1-5) 81-67 on Friday evening in the consolation round of the 46th Annual Wendy's College Classic.
For the first time since January 4, 2011, no Tiger scored in double figures.
Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta),
Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West) and
Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers) each scored eight points. Ryan Riefenhauser led the way for the Knights with 19 points and nine boards.
Geneseo's Mike Hoy converted the three-point play at the 4:18 mark in the first to give the Knights a 13-3 lead. The Knights continued to take it to the Tigers, leading by 17 at the half, 44-27.
The beginning of the second half was much of the same, with Geneseo leading by as many as 24 points. The Tigers attempted a late run, but could not get under double digits.
RIT shot 20-for-42 from the field (47.6%) and 24-for-32 from the line (75.0%). RIT's bench outscored Geneseo's 39-20. RIT's defense struggled, allowing the Knights to shoot 30-for-55 from the field (54.5%).
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the seventh place game of the Wendy's College Classic.
