Second half struggles doom men's basketball in conference loss to Utica

ROCHESTER, NY
-- The RIT men's basketball team (6-8, 3-2 Empire 8) dropped its second conference game of the season, losing to Utica College (8-5, 2-3 Empire 8) 66-53 Friday evening at Clark Gymnasium. The Pioneers outscored the Tigers 34-20 in the second half.

The Tigers shot 21.4% from the floor in the second half, scoring just 20 points after shooting 41.9% in the first half.

The first half saw two ties and three led changes. The Tigers lead by as many as 12 points and hung on to take a 33-32 led into the break as Utica went on a 16-5 point run over the final 7:28 of the half.

Senior guard Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) led RIT with 19 points. He shot 5-of-11 from the floor, had three 3-pointers and was 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Junior Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) added nine points and Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) finished with eight points to go along with five assists.

The Pioneers shot 50.0% from the floor on the game. James Patterson led the squad with 17 points and six rebounds.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. on the road against Empire 8 foe Elmira College.
