ALFRED, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team defeated Alfred University 58-45 in Empire 8 action on Tuesday night. The win improves the Tigers to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the Empire 8.
Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) led RIT with 14 points. junior guard
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
RIT trailed 2-0 briefly in the first half, but soon broke the game open, leading by as many as 17 points in the opening half. The Tigers led by 12 at the break.
Korinchak led RIT with eight first-half points. He was 4-of-6 from the field, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.
Alfred made a brief run in the second half closing the gap to nine points early on. But, the Tigers grabbed the momentum back and gradually opened the lead up to as many as 22 points.
RIT shot 42.0 percent from the floor on 21-of-50 shooting. The Tigers were 4-of-12 from three point land and went 12-of-18 from the free throw line. The Tigers out-rebounded the Saxons 34-31, led by Korinchak who had 10 rebounds. The Tigers forced Alfred into 18 turnovers and scored 13 points off those turnovers.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, January 29 at Utica College. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
