ROCHESTER, NY - Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) converted a lay-up with 0.4 seconds left in the second half lifted the RIT men's basketball team to a 80-79 win over Western Ontario in an exhibition contest at Clark Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Harder took a feed from
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) underneath and converted the uncontested lay-up. Harder finished the game with 14 points, all in the second half. He was 6-for-6 from the field over the final 20 minutes. Overall, Harder added six boards and five blocks.
RIT trailed by as many as 10 points, on seven different occasions. RIT used a 19-6 run over a span of 8:40 in the second half to take its first lead of the game, 65-62. The lead would change five more times before Harder's decisive basket.
Western Ontario shot 49 percent from the field, while RIT was right behind at 48.5 percent. Both teams shot well over 50 percent from the field in the second half. RIT won the battle of the boards, 35-31.
Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) scored 14 points and added six boards for the Tigers.
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) tallied 12 points, five boards, and three assists, while
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) added nearly identical numbers, with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) added eight points, while Lowe tallied six.
RIT's bench out-scored Western Ontario's, 26-4.
All five Western Ontario starters finished in double-figures. Garrett Olexiuk led the way with 17 points. Marcus Barnett scored 16 points, while Ryan Barbeau and Andrew Wedmire chipped in with 13 points apiece. Jason Milliquet added 12 points. Wedemire pulled down a game-high eight boards.
The Tigers open the 2009-10 regular season at the Plattsburgh Tournament on Nov. 21. They play Husson College at 6 p.m.
