Tigers Improve to 4-0 in Empire 8

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team improved to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8 with an 81-64 win over Elmira College. #Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville)# (Voorheesville, NY) and Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) both had career highs in points. Carson tallied a game-high 28 points, while Sweet added 20 points for the Tigers.

The 4-0 start in the Empire 8 is the best start since the 2003-04 season when the Tigers began the Empire 8 season 5-0.

Carson's 28 points and 13 rebounds gives him his eighth double-double in nine games this season. He was 12-of-18 from the floor and went 4-for-4 from the foul line.

The Tigers never trailed in the contest leading by 16 at the half at 45-29. RIT built their lead to 28 in the second half before a run by the Soaring Eagles in the second half cut RIT's lead to 10 points. The Tigers closed out the final 6:51 with a 17-10 run to win by 17.

RIT shot 57.1% from the floor, including 60.6% in the first half, on 32-of-56 shooting. Nate Karinchak (Strongsville, OH) scored 11 points, dished out six assists and had two steals. The Tigers forced Elmira into 15 turnovers and had five steals on the afternoon.

Bobby DiPiazza led the Soaring Eagles with 24 points. Palen Andreozzi added 16 points and had a team-high 12 rebounds.

RIT will host Empire 8 and cross-town rival St. John Fisher College on Tuesday, January 6 at 8 pm in Clark Gymnasium.
