HOBOKEN, NJ - The RIT baseball team (16-12, 7-5 Empire 8) had its winning streak snapped at nine games after losing game one to Stevens (8-26, 1-12 Empire 8) 7-4 on Sunday. The Tigers rebounded however in game two, ripping three home runs en route to an 11-3 victory. RIT has now won 10-of-11 games.
In game one, Stevens jumped out to a 7-0 lead by scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning.
The Tigers rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Stevens lead to 7-4. Freshman
Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/LIvonia) (Livonia, NY/Livonia) hit a bases-loaded double to right center field, driving in all three runs.
Raffaele Parisi (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) then singled in Smith to complete the scoring.
Chris Miller (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) took the loss on the mound, allowing two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings. Senior
Paul Schoeneck (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) and
Rory Camardello (Brighton, NY/Brighton) (Rochester, NY/Brighton) combined to pitch 3 1/3 of scoreless relief.
In game two, the Tigers slammed 17 hits and three homers, including two in the sixth inning. RIT scored three runs in the top of the first inning, one in the second, four in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Geoff Dornes (Landisville, PA/Hempfiled) (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Senior catcher
Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning. He went 3-for-5.
Dave Kernan (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) led off the sixth inning with a home run.
Matt George (Walton, NY/Walton) (Walton, NY/Walton) went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, and a stolen base. George now has 19 stolen bases on the season, one off his season record of 20, set last season. He has 40 career stolen bases, third all-time at RIT.
Senior
Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in.
Anthony Culotta (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and
Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) had two hits apiece.
Sophomore
Jeff Bibbens (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) picked up his third win of the season on the mound, allowing six hits and three runs in six innings. He struck out four batters. Schoeneck pitched a scoreless seventh inning,
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to Keuka to play the Storm in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
