PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team needed overtime but defeated Nazareth College 94-81 in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. RIT forward
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) had another double-double, tallying 21 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
RIT led by as many as 19 points in the first half and 15 points in the second half but trailed by three late in the game.
With time running out
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) (Strongsville, OH) came off a screen and drained a three-pointer six seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime, the Tigers dominated play outscoring the Golden Flyers 15-2. Carson had seven of RIT's 15 points in the overtime.
The Tigers shot 51.6% from the floor and out rebounded the Golden Flyers 43-38. RIT had six steals and 16 turnovers.
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) scored 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. He made five three-pointers and went 4-for-4 from the foul line.
Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) had his best game offensively of the season, scoring 16 points. He shot 6-for-11 from the floor and made five free throws.
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) chipped in 15 points, four assists and three rebounds, while
Clayton Gray (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) (Anchorage, AK/Service) each had eight points.
RIT, now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8, are off until next Friday when the Tigers host the 24th annual Brodie Tournament. The Tigers face Houghton College at 8 pm on Friday preceded by Westfield State versus SUNY Oneonta at 6 pm.
