MADISON, NJ - Senior center
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) recorded career-highs of 28 points and 23 rebounds to lead the RIT men's basketball team (1-1) to its first win of the season, 85-67 win over Thomas College in consolation action at the Rose City Classic hosted by Drew University on Saturday afternoon.
Carson shot 11-for-21 from the field and had nine offensive rebounds.
Junior forward
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) chipped in with career-highs of 23 points and nine rebounds. Young tied a career-high by draining four 3-pointers. He was 8-for-15 overall from the field.
RIT trailed 44-43 at halftime, before dominating the second half, out-scoring Thomas 42-23. RIT opened the half on a 9-0 run to go up 52-44. After Thomas cut the RIT lead to five, the Tigers scored 10 unanswered points over a span of 3:05 to take a 15 point lead and cruise from there.
The first half featured 10 ties and nine lead changes.
RIT shot 44 percent from the field, but crushed Thomas on the boards, 52-24. Carson had one less rebound by himself than the entire Thomas team.
Carson, who earned All-Empire 8 and d3hoops.com East Region second team honors last season, was named to the Rose City Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Tigers return to action on Monday, Dec. 1, as they open up conference play at Alfred University.
