ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomores
Yu Tanimoto and
Alexander Sinclair will compete at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships May 18-26 in Chattanooga, TN.
Tanimoto earned the NCAA Region II automatic bid in singles while he and Sinclair earned the Region II automatic bid in doubles. They are the first two men's tennis players in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Tanimoto enters the championships with a 19-4 record in singles competition. A two-time Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week, Tanimoto finished 6-1 in Liberty League play and was 16-2 at first singles. Tanimoto, who is ranked No. 1 in Region 2, defeated Union's Solen Bellermare in last week's Liberty League Tournament.
Tanimoto and Sinclair enter the NCAA's with an 18-5 record. The duo finished third in the Liberty League with a .783 winning percentage. Tanimoto and Sinclair, who are ranked first in Region 2, recorded a 7-1 record in Liberty League play at first doubles. They beat Union's Arhan Gupta and Jesus Sosa 6-2 in last week's Liberty League Tournament.
