CANTON, NY -- The RIT men's tennis team swept both B-Flight Doubles brackets to lead a strong showing at the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 11-12).
The RIT duo of graduate student
Jacob Meyerson (Cranston, RI/Cranston West)Â and senior
Jake Wolicki (Canton, MA/Canton)Â won the B-Flight doubles bracket with an 8-5 win, while senior
Carter Casimer (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg Area) and freshman
Joel Pho (Williamsburg, VA/Heritage Academy) combined to win the B-Flight doubles drawback with an 8-2 victory.
Meyerson and Wolicki bested Hobart's Jack Ledford and Nick Grosso in the finals after an 8-6 semifinal win, an 8-3 quarterfinal win and an 8-2 opening round victory. Casimer and Pho won the drawback over Union's Bailey McAtee and Thomas McGuire after an 8-3 semifinal win and 8-4 quarterfinal victory.
In singles drawback action, RIT won the C and D flights. It was an all RIT final in the D singles drawback with Meyerson defeating Casimer, 8-7 (8-6), while freshman
Christian Berko (Silver Spring, MD/St. John College) won the C singles drawback, 8-7 (7-1), over Ithaca's Tyler Del Zoppo.
Meyerson advanced to the D finals after an 8-2 semifinal win, while Casimer took his semifinal match by an 8-2 score. Berko advanced to the C finals with an 8-6 semifinal win.
RIT next hosts Daemen on Wednesday (Sept. 15) at 3 p.m.
