Men's swimming and diving finishes third at 2019 Liberty League Championship

Tigers break six school records during the four-day event

ITHACA, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team finished third out of nine teams at the four-day 2019 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championship from the Kelsey Bird Partridge Natatorium on the campus of Ithaca College, from Feb. 20-23. Overall, RIT broke six school records over the four-day event.

The Tigers finished with 1,170 points. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute won the team title with 1,681 points, while host Ithaca was runner-up with 1,438 points.

RIT ended the meet in style, as the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington), Ben Metzger (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Adam Reitz (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Will Brown (Boulder, CO/Fairview) snapped a four-year old school record by 18 one-hundredths of a second, placing third overall in a time of 3:07.85

Brennan Kapp broke a four-year old school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing fourth overall in a time of 2:08.21. Tom Richter (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) was 13th overall and Tom Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline) placed 16th.

Brown earned an impressive fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, recording a time of 46.71 seconds. Metzger (47.99 seconds), Braden Feasley (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) (48.37 seconds), Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) (48.53 seconds) and Reitz (48.80 seconds in final, 48.53 in prelims) all finished between 10th and 16th.

Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) placed seventh in the demanding 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 16:51.42. Jimmy Antonelli placed 13th with a time of 17:20.51.

Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) was RIT's best finisher in the 200-yard backstroke, placing 10th overall in a time of 1:59.49. Scott Brink (Quincy, MA/Boston College) was 15th in the event, while Tyler Schwarz (Stanley, NY/Marcus Whitman) placed 19th.

Jon Bauer (Fairview, PA/McDowell) finished seventh overall in the 3-meter diving event, recording a score of 420.80. He picked up 422.10 points in the preliminaries earlier in the day. Chase Van Duyne (Auburn, NY/Auburn) finished 10th in the prelims with a score of 338.75.

RIT will host the 2019 NCAA Diving Regional on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 from the Gordon Field House.

The Tigers will await potential berths into the 2019 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship. That meet takes place from March 20-23 from the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
