ITHACA, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team is currently third out of nine teams after Thursday's action at the 2019 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championship from the Kelsey Bird Partridge Natatorium on the campus of Ithaca College. One school record fell on Thursday.
RIT has 642 points, third behind defending champion Rensselaer, who has 835 points, while host Ithaca is second with 677 points.
RIT's 400-yard medley relay team of
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings),
Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington) and
Will Brown (Boulder, CO/Fairview) crushed a school record by nearly three seconds, placing third overall in a time of 3:26.87. The Tigers opened day two action by placing third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Brown,
Ben Metzger (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Rothrock and Schlehr hit the finish line in 1:24.63, just shy of a school mark.
Moss and
Braden Feasley (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) excelled for the Tigers in the 200-yard freestyle, placing fifth and seventh, respectively. Moss recorded a time of 1:43.97 in the finals, while Feasley completed the event in 1:44.46.
Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North),
Adam Reitz (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Jimmy Antonelli also finished in the top-13 overall.
Metzger was RIT's top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly, placing eighth overall in 52.84 seconds. He swam three tenths of a second faster in the morning preliminaries.
Keanu Pagano (Oxnard, CA/Oxnard) finished ninth, winning the "B" final in 52.66 seconds. Schlehr finished 15th.
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham),
Wil Seifried (Springfield, PA/Springfield),
Tom Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline) and Thomas Richter all earned valuable points for the Tigers in the 400-yard individual medley. Wang was RIT's top performer, placing 11th overall, with a time of 4:19.34.
Jon Bauer (Fairview, PA/McDowell) placed eighth in the 1-meter diving event, picking up 386.60 points.
Chase Van Duyne (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was 10th in the preliminaries, recording 369.45 points.
Day three of the 2019 Liberty League Championships begins with preliminary action on Friday, starting at 10 a.m. Friday's finals action starts at 6 p.m.
