CANTON, NY – The RIT men's tennis team opened the 2018-19 season at the St. Lawrence Fall Classic, hosted by Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University in Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9.
The "A" flight doubles team of
Chandler Libby (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) and
Brennan Bull () earned a 9-7 win over Tim Derby and Rob Dotterer of Hamilton in the opening round. The duo dropped a 9-7 decision to Rochester in the quarterfinals.
Gabriel von Kessel (Sarasota, FL/Pine View) and
David Trimmer (York, PA/Dallastown) earned an 8-6 win in the "B" doubles consolation over Andrew Wei and Josh Kaplan of Hamilton. They fell to Freddy Purpora and Cameron Pankau of St. Lawrence in the semifinal round.
Libby was RIT's lone winner in singles play, earning a 9-8 (4-0) win over Max Zimmerman of Hamilton in the "A" flight consolation. He dropped a tough match Nico Haet of host St. Lawrence in the consolation semifinals Sunday.

Mac Yang Li (Montreal, Quebec/IMG Academy),
Nick Lim (West Caldwell, NJ/West Caldwell),
Jake Wolicki (Canton, MA/Canton) and
Hamza Khammash (Amman, Jordan/Repton New English) and
Carter Casimir (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg Area) were also in action for the Tigers.
RIT is off until Sept. 28, when they head to Hobart College to compete at the ITA Tournament.
