ITHACA, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team placed second out of 10 teams at the 2018 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Ithaca College from Feb. 21-24. The Tigers finished with a score of 1,212.5 points, while Rensselaer won the title with a score of 1,486 points.
In Saturday's action,
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and
James Antonelli (Clarendon Hills, IL/Hillsdale Central) placed seventh and eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle to kick off the final session. Wang placed seventh in a time of 17:07.09, while Antonelli came home in a time of 17:19.18.
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) placed seventh in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 47.71.
Zachary Ward (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville),
Adam Reitz (Hilton, NY/Hilton),
Tyler Allen (Newark, NY/Newark),
Jason Cook (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and
Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) all secured points in the "B" final. Ward finished 11th in 48.31, while Reitz was 12th (48.71), Allen placed 14th (48.78), Cook was 15th (49.04) and Truskinovsky finished 16th (49.40).
Nicholas Genovese (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) placed eighth in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 2:00.41, while
Tyler Schwarz (Stanley, NY/Marcus Whitman) was 11th.
John Stelmack (Toccoa, GA/Stephens County) finished in a dead heat for ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall in 2:12.60.
In the final event of the weekend, RIT placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, securing runner-up honors. The team of
Adam Reitz (Hilton, NY/Hilton), Ward, Allen and Facchine completed the event in a time of 3:11.37.
