ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team leads after Friday's action at the 27th Annual Don Richards Invitational at Judson Pool on the campus of RIT. The Tigers lead with a team score of 350.5 points. Clarkson University is second after the first day with 197.5 points.
The Tigers began the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Andres Orbe (North Bergen, NJ/Saint Peter's),
Will Brown (Boulder, CO/Fairview),
Ben Metzger (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and
Mark Truskinovsky (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) won the event in a time of 1:26.46. The Tigers also took home first in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Orbe, Nevers, Moss and Brown won the event in a time of 3:35.84.
Eric Moss (Irvington, NY/Irvington),
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and Jimmy Antonelli and Truskinovsky scored points for RIT in the 500-yard freestyle. Moss placed second (4:51.05), while Wang was fourth (4:54.94). Antonelli finished sixth (5:00.14), while Truskinovsky finished eighth (5:04.84).
The Tigers swept the top four spots in the 50-yard freestyle.
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) won the event in a time of 21.44, while Brown placed second (21.70). Orbe came home third (21.77), while Metzger finished fourth (21.81).
In diving action,
Jon Bauer (Fairview, PA/McDowell) finished third in the 3-meter competition with a score of 363.45, while
Chase Van Duyne (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was fifth (334.80).
There will be two sessions on Saturday to wrap up the two-day Don Richards Invitational. Saturday's early session begins at 9 a.m., while the afternoon/evening session starts at 4 p.m.
